Ben Mannes, MA, CPP, CESP is a subject matter expert in exam integrity, investigations, and public safety with experience in federal and municipal law enforcement agencies, and as a security executive in nonprofit and private organizations. As Director of Test Security at the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), Ben was responsible for creating and managing test security initiatives and investigations for over 20 exams taken by roughly 225,000 physicians worldwide. Ben has also served as the Enforcement Subcommittee Chair on the ATP Security Committee, and consulted numerous test sponsors in certification, admissions, licensure and K-12 exams to address fraud, theft and cheating. Ben has created new best practices in the protection of intellectual property and exam integrity, resulting in over 150 cases for administrative sanction, legal action, or referral to public agencies in at least three countries. Ben has a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership, is both a Certified Exam Security Professional & Certified Protection Professional, serves on the Criminal Justice Studies Advisory Board at Peirce College in Philadelphia and is in his third term as a Governor on the Executive Board for InfraGard, the FBI-coordinated public/private partnership for critical infrastructure protection.
Terry Ausman is Paradigm’s Chief Operating Officer. She is a highly experienced, recognized professional in the testing industry. Terry began her career in computer-based test delivery of high-stakes exams in the early 1990s, developing a national network of testing centers to administer licensure and certification exams, and served as Director of Test Centers at Prometric, with responsibility for test center management across North and South America. Terry joined ACT, Inc. to deliver millions of educational and workforce credentialing tests each year across the United States. While at ACT, Terry worked with state and national programs, and managed the client operations for significant key government contracts. Working with Assessment Systems she implemented computer-based testing on major domestic and international programs and managed second language testing program contracts for the company. Terry has degrees from Colorado State University and Nova Southeastern, and is certified as a Program Management Professional (PMP).
Clive Roberts, Ph.D., is Paradigm Testing’s Language Consultant. Dr. Roberts is a language professional with extensive experience leading language teaching and testing companies, including Second Language Testing, Inc., (SLTI). He also served as Vice President of Assessment, Analysis and Research for ELS Educational Services, Inc., and Dean of both the Korean and Arabic Schools and Professor of German at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center. Dr. Roberts earned his Ph.D. in German Literature at the University of California, San Diego, and his M.A. at the University of Tuebingen, in Modern German Philology, minoring in English and American Literature. Dr. Roberts has presented papers at international and national conferences on numerous language and literature topics. He has traveled to over fifty countries, and has lived in South Africa, Australia, Germany, and the U.S.
Eric was born and raised in Chicago. He attended Gallaudet University in Washington, DC, then earned a BA in Business from DePaul University and later a BFA in Graphic Design from Columbia College. Eric has been deaf since birth. He has presented at state and national conferences on the topic of Deaf Culture and accommodations for deaf and hard-of-hearing college students. He is an expert on the use of assistive technology for this population. At Paradigm, Eric manages the day-to-day operations of the test accommodations process.
Albert Chen for nearly 20 years has been invested in either the standards and administration side of high stakes testing or the analysis and preparation side of the industry. His previous positions include 12 years with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions serving in Executive Director positions throughout the Graduate Programs group including marketing, product research and development, brand management, academics, business development and field experience. Albert then spent an additional 7 years with the American Board for Certification for Teacher Excellence rising to the Chief Strategy Officer and COO position administering teacher preparation and certification testing. Albert was most recently the COO for Youth For Understanding USA. Albert is currently acting as a consultant or Board advisor to four education and technology organizations providing strategic planning, marketing, and technological expertise in the for-profit and non-profit worlds. Albert has a Master’s of Engineering degree from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Biomedical Engineering (BME) with an emphasis in Biomechanics, and a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Northwestern University in BME with a concentration in electronic instrumentation, computer applications, hardware emphasis. Albert’s greatest joy and “achievement” is his wife, and two daughters aged one and three.
Ron Hanchar has more than 20 years of experience managing domestic and international certification and licensure programs. His areas of expertise include NCCA and ANSI/ISO 17024 national accreditation, exam development, program management, and governance. As Executive Director of Certification at Ascend Learning, LLC Ron managed nine certification programs, and championed multiple NCCA accreditation, and re-accreditation applications. Ron also transitioned Department of Defense cyber forensic certificate program to become ISO 17024 compliant, and Directed NCCA accredited programs, and ISO 17024 accredited programs at the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Project Management Institute, respectively. Ron is a member of ICE and ATP, and has served on the ICE Education Committee. He is currently an elected commissioner for the NCCA, and is a member, and past chairman of the CNG Board of Directors. Ron obtained baccalaureate degrees in History and Business Management from Calumet College of St. Joseph’s, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Purdue University. Ron has completed ANSI/ISO 17024 certification training, and IAS Auditor Training for ISO 17024.
Tom Bowen is Paradigm Testing’s Chief Technology Officer. Tom has more than 15 years of experience in developing and managing enterprise software products and projects. Tom developed the first end-to-end Web-based platform to administer licensing and certification tests, including Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tests. Tom is also experienced as a global project manager, responsible for managing onshore and offshore development teams, and large testing center networks. Tom has a degree in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University.
Lance J. Welter serves as Chief Customer Officer. Lance brings over 20 years of experience in credentialing, certification and accreditation, leading business development efforts and supporting customers. Lance is a co-founder of the Certification Network Group (CNG), and past Chair of the CNG Board of Directors. His career has largely focused on the business of running and growing credentialing programs. Lance holds a Master’s degree in Communication Theory from Northeastern Illinois University, and attended law school at Northwestern University School of Law.
Dr. John Hosterman is Paradigm Testing’s Chief of Accessibility Services. For nearly 30 years John’s vocation has been to improve educational opportunities for students with disabilities. Most recently he was the Director of Global of Accessibility at Pearson VUE, where he led the organization’s disability support team, provided internal and customer guidance on accessibility issues and disability compliance, and led outreach efforts with disability-advocacy organizations. Before working at Pearson, John was the Director of Accommodations Review for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). John did his undergraduate work in Economics at the College of William and Mary, and completed his Ph.D. in Learning Disabilities and Educational Psychology from Northwestern University. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences speaking on issues related to accessible high-stakes testing. He is fluent in American Sign Language and is active in the deaf community. John is married and has two sons, a dog named “Pumpkin”, and a cat named “Tuna”.
Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Rudner is Paradigm Testing’s Chief of Psychometric & Research Services. Larry has more than 20 years of experience in the testing industry, and is a most recognized and respected psychometrician. As Vice President of Research and Development at the Graduate Management Admission Council, his work included test validation, adaptive testing, professional standards, QTI specifications, test security, data forensics, and contract monitoring for the GMAT exam. Dr. Rudner holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from The Catholic University, an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from The University of Maryland, and a MS degree in Education from Western Connecticut University.
